Year 6 Takes on the Waves: Surf Ed Adventure at Freshwater Beach

Published: 03 December 2025

Each year, our Year 6 students at St Gerard’s Carlingford completes a Surf Ed program before they graduate, giving students a final opportunity to develop surfing skills, ocean awareness, and confidence. Last week, our Year 6 students enjoyed an action-packed day at Freshwater Beach, learning new skills, tackling waves, and having fun in the sun.

The program focuses on surf awareness, safety, basic first aid, and sun protection. Students practised identifying beach hazards, understanding sun safety and following important safety rules in the water.

For many students, it was their first time on a surfboard, yet their courage and determination shone through. The instructors were impressed with their resilience, teamwork, and enthusiasm.

A big congratulations to our Year 6 class for their calm, respectful, and adventurous approach throughout the day. They embraced every challenge, making the Surf Ed program both enjoyable and educational.

We are incredibly proud of our Year 6 surfers. It was a day filled with laughter, learning, and unforgettable memories, a true highlight of the Year 6 experience at St Gerard’s Carlingford.
